Q — Who are you and where are you from?
Hi! I’m Linda Kowcharlie from Kuujjuaraapik, although I’ve lived in Umiujaq and Sanikiluaq as well.
Q — What position did you take on with Qarjuit Youth Council?
There was an AGM held in Chisasibi and
I was interested in attending it just as a youth, so I applied to participate. During
the meeting, previous representative Laz Iserhoff needed to pass down his responsibilities. The youth chose to vote
on who would like to take on those roles and responsibilitiesandIwasvotedin, back in November 2021 as a Board of Director
for Qarjuit Youth Council representing
the Hudson youth.
Q — Would you like to give a bit of insight of how your experience went?
I loved and will continue to love every single moment I have with Qarjuit. I stayed quiet the first few months to just learn how an organization runs since I had no experience in being part of a regional board. As time went on, I became more comfortable in raising reality concerns for our youth and how we all could approach them for a better outcome. I was lucky enough to work
with such amazing youth that also want to represent a region with such promising up-and-coming young adults. Along time, I became more confident
in participating in decision making and planning. I thank Qarjuit and every single person I got to work with!
Q — What words of encourage would you give to those people that would like to join Qarjuit as a representative for the Hudson coast?
Go for it!! Qarjuit has taught me so many things I would have not understood, in such a positive impact. I was shy at first, for sure and that was totally okay with everyone.
I found everyone at Qarjuit was kind
and patient enough with my pace in learning! Everywhere I went, every meeting I attended, everything I learnt, I always left with a feeling that was so positive I thought I could move mountains. Go for what will make a positive outcome, for something that will lift others up; Qarjuit always did that. Do not be afraid to fail as it’s just practice. You will grow, you will exceed and nothing bad will ever come out of trying. I have hope for everyone who tries. Keep going!
