I vividly remember the day I rushed to submit my nomination for the board of directors’ election representing youth from the Ungava coast. With just 5 minutes
to spare before the deadline, I hurried
to the office, collected a form, gathered
10 signatures in support of my nomination, and completed the process just in time! After that, the campaign began, and
I secured the position. A month later, I was appointed as the President of the youth council-onHalloweenday,noless!Itwas definitely a scary experience, considering my lack of political background and my own uncertainties. However, I knew deep down that this was where I belonged. My main goal was to work towards a better future for our Inuit youth in Nunavik and Chisasibi.
If you have the passion and drive to make
positive changes, you can find your place, too. All it takes is a strong determination. Overcoming obstacles and aligning your path with the council’s objectives can lead to meaningful transformation. It’s incredibly fulfilling to have a voice and impact decisions at regional and international meetings instead of just expressing opinions on social media. I believe anyone can achieve this. The upcoming elections in September present an opportunity for you to stepup.Iurgeyoutoconsiderrunning for president, Vice President, or Hudson representative positions. It might be intimidating, but remember that you will have tremendous support from various sources, just like me. Consider joining
the council! Atii!
